Not exactly surprising, as management is not exactly friendly and inviting. You would think they would figure this out being in a pedestrian area and catering to families with younger children, but I guess they don't value that type of business.
Absolutely. They make a great lox bagel with cream cheese. Many great options other than that, too.
Cozy and simple with a touch of sophistication both in decor and food. Friendly staff and easy, accessible location. If you drive however, be prepared to run around a bit for parking depending on what day and time you visit.
I had the lox and cream cheese platter, one of the best meals I have had in a while.
Best eggs benny hands down. So much selection and it is amazingly fresh.
The food was amazing, but there was no air conditioning and we were served warm water. We also had to wait a pretty long time for the food to come out, while we sat there sweating. I would happily pay the price again if we were actually comfortable in the restaurent but it was so hot in there that we probably won’t be coming back.
One of the best breakfast places in the city. Nothing more to add really, definitely go out of your way to eat here
Best breakfast in all of Edmonton or dare I say all of Alberta? This place is worth the price no doubt at all! They make the absolute best coffees and even better bagels. You have to try the eggs Benedict! The pictures speak for themselves.
Meh! Although the food tastes fine, we waited an incredibly long time for our meal. When it was served, all our food was cold. My soft poached egg was not soft, it may have hardened up by either the wait time or by the coolness of them when served. Either way at $26 for eggs benny's it should have been perfection. I think the restaurant may have had its day, but that day has gone.
This place is wonderful. It's a family business and the service is so friendly. I stopped in for breakfast on a Monday morning around 10am. Promptly recieved the house coffee I ordered and had a nice chat with the gentleman running the front. My breakfast came quickly, I ordered the eggs benedict with black forest ham and it was delicious. The potatoes, the fruit, my eggs were cooked perfectly. I used to frequent this restaurant when I lived in Edmonton and it's been years since I've been here but I think it's actually just gotten better.I'm so sad to see all the negative comments and ranting about this hot lemon water incident. I can only encourage you to visit this place yourself and make up your own mind rather than rating this place based on a social media rant. This is a long standing Edmonton family run restaurant and a small business that deserves honest reviews. I wish them all the best and can't wait to go back.
Waited briefly for a table. Then placed in the back corner which was cramped. Then waited a long time to get our order taken, one of our party had to get up to get them to take our order. Then we waited for drink refills. Then we waited for food.I refilled my own water multiple times.Food was great. Bagels were underwhelming the potatoes were superb. Fruit on the side was great. When I went to pay there was no discount on the meals. The waitress thought the service was good.I paid full price. That's what their level of service is. I expect a lot more for $25+ a plate for breakfast. We will not return.
I really wanted to like this place, but their vegan options are... not good.
The food is always amazing! A hidden gem in Edmonton. The prices are a bit more than your typical brunch but it's because the quality far surpasses! My go to is French toast with the challal bread.
A bit expensive but a great selection. Took me and my wife a long time to deside on what to get due to the amazing list of menu items.
House coffee is good. My potatoes were warm, the bennies were cold, drinking water was room temperature with no ice.Waited for ever for not even busy. For the price .... meh. Lots of other places out there that try harder ... won't be back. HTH
Came on Tuesday, delicious food and amazing personable service. The truffle benedict is totally worth it. The French toast is truly remarkable and not to mention the perfect hand cut and seasoned hashbrowns. The server was an older gentleman, who clearly loved where he worked. Definitely will return and is 100% worth the prices they charge. Dont come here if you dont want to spend money. If you want subpar/terrible food at a reasonable price and 15 minute plates: go to Dennys. These people care about their work and food. Worth waiting for and worth every penny. I will certainly return.
Food is goodNice atmoshereFruits are freshCoffee isn’t good- below averageStaff are friendly Prices are very high - food isn’t exceptional to charge that much. Not easy to find parking
Pricey cafe that needs more labour to make it whole. Nice conversion from a house, loads of wood decor and furniture and outside seating. Excellent plating. Too bad only one server running around for everything - seating, ordering, paying. And not cheap - $20-26 for bagel or benny dishes. No baby strollers, no wheelchair access.
The food is incredible! This is so far one of the best bennies I’ve ever had. Suggestion: order the truffle ham Bennie. No way to go wrong with it.
Good place to have brunch. The place is small but nicely decorated. You better book before going. Small parking but 2$ parking is adjacent with a historic coin payment machine. Service is good. I recommend it. I erased the photos as it accidentaly catchedv a person without his permission 🙂
The best brunch in Edmonton! In the sumner their patio is open to seat with plants and flowers. Any meal is good. I like the benny with pumpernickel bagel.
Walked in around 9:30 on a Saturday morning, wanting to order a breakfast sandwich to go. We were told the kitchen was too busy to accommodate us and that we should try coming back on a Tuesday when they’re a little quieter...I was dumb founded. What difference does it make if I’m eating there or taking it to go? We support local businesses all the way - but if this is the sort of service you’re offering, those chain restaurants are more than willing to accommodate. We won’t bother going back to New York Bagel Cafe.
Delicious. Large portions, excellent presentation, and yummy, what more could I ask for.
Excellent food and delicious food, georgous!
We went to this restaurant on a whim for a light snack. Its a cute little place. We were seated outside. My husband and I both ordered abagel platter which comes with pickles, potatoes salad, and fresh veggies. At first I thought the price was a bit high but when it came out,It was absolutely delicious. You could taste the quality in the ingredients. Will have to come back to try all the other meals!
The food is absolutely delicious as are the coffees. Very friendly service also.
excellent food and excellent service at a moderate price that is well worth it. Fresh fruit and vegetables were good quality and a definite highlight! Interesting options, lovely atmosphere.
It was okay, but the price and quality of the food do not match. For breakfast, expect to pay close to $25 or more per person for food and coffee, but the fare isn't special and the food is mostly generic breakfast fare. I expect good or above average quality ingredients and proper spiced and flavored food given the price. The bagels were okay, for a place that has bagel in it's name it was disappointing. They seemed to be store bought, not in house made. The water we were provided was tepid tap water and have a very distinct odd taste from particulates, for the prices of the dishes, they can at least provide filtered water. The fruit was the highlight of our dishes, they were quite fresh and properly ripe but the rest of the breakfast wasn't very special. Coffee was also pretty good.Overall, disappointing experience, take your money elsewhere.
I was here the day of Pride and had a fantastic breakfast! Would definitely recommend.
Atmosphere and service really made this place. The food options were outstanding. Price for my food was a little more than expected as with the wait time. However, the atmosphere made a comfortable place to chat and let time pass as you waited for the meal. The meal was good and I liked the fact it was all local. Service was very attentive and pleasant. A great place for an experience but not for everyones budget if you want to make a regular appearance. Give it a try for sure. Its a nice get away in the city even if its just once.
Went on a rainy day and it was quiet. I didn't wait very long for the food and the portions were generous. The prices are pretty up there, so definitely more of a once in a blue moon kind of place. Our waitress was polite but brisk. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Their music selection was quirky, but awesome! Check it out if you want to treat yourself, but definitely best to go during their less active hours!
Delicious food and fantastic service! Will definitely be returning soon!
Best coffee and eggs benny in Edmonton.
Quiet place, beautiful antique decor, awesome food, and kind staff. Loved it!
Eggs Benedict is my favorite food on earth and I've had it all over the world and this is by far the best I've ever had. I've read hate over a charge for hot water and lemon which is basically the same as tea and lemons/labour aren't free. That whole argument is so stupid and I can't believe the sheep mentality of people. NYBC is amazing, the prices are clearly listed on the menu, and SO WORTH IT. Anyone with taste knows why they come here. Keep being amazing and ignore the haters you ROCK. Will keep coming back as long as I live!!
Best brunch in town by far, be prepared to wait a little longer, but its certainly worth it! Even though prices are little high for brunch, they definitely match the quality and service. 10/10 everytime.
We visit whenever we come to Edmonton. Awesome Benedicts. Great friendly service. And the house coffee is the best.
Definitely loved the food and coffee. The price point is a little higher but I feel it's pretty worth it for the amount you get.
It was a bit of a wait for the food, but the bagel plates were delicious, and the ingredients are fresh. They also take social distancing seriously, and the very friendly gentleman that served us was proud of how thorough they disinfected all it's surfaces. Its on the pricy side, but the atmosphere and food make up for it. I will definitely be returning here
Pleasant nostalgic atmosphere and delicious breakfast and brunch fare. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
Good food. A little pricey though. It's a once in awhile treat for me
Pricy but good
Amazing food. Okay service and cash only.
Great atmosphere, full plates, happy tummy’s
Great experience and atmosphere. Hot bevys were great. Food ... amazing. Sweet employees.
Great staff and fantastic food. The traditional ham benny on a bagel is definitely a bang for your buck. The $20 plates are HUGE, however, they have sharing limitations.Great selection of coffees and espresso beverages, as well!
Best breakfast in town!!! Fantastic menu and wide selection of delicious eggs benny. Great cozy atmosphere, always enjoy my time here. Friendly and welcoming staff.
First time here.Patio is delightful.Service was good.Had the egg bagel sandwich. It was delicious.Gave 4 stars only because it's expensive (Bagel with cream cheese is $18. Eggs Benedict is $26)
This place is so special! The food was amazing, so fresh. Obviously made with love and passion... and with that, the wait for food is a little longer but so worth it!! Michelle makes a delicious latte. It is a busy place but I will be coming back for sure!
Brunch was filling and delicious- a real treat! Many bagel options to choose from (but no gluten free bagels). The hollandaise sauce was super yummy and the fruit arrangement with the classic breakfast puts the whole Cora's franchise to shame. On each table there are a variety of sweet, savory, and spicey additions (spreads, sauces etc).
You get what you pay for. Yes, it’s expensive, but the food is great. Our mains were incredible and our side included dragon fruit, blackberries, blood orange, gooseberries and pomegranates. If you want premade food and old cantaloupe, go to a cheaper place.
So comfy and cozy. The food is absolutely delicious and the coffee is exceptional. Definitely try the Hawaiian coffee 💜
